Church membership is really about walking in joyful obedience to Jesus. He calls us to open our hands—to give generously of our resources and to use the gifts and abilities He has given us—not for our own sake, but to build up the people He loves (Col. 1:28; 2 Cor. 8:1–9:15; 1 Cor. 14:12; 1 Pt. 4:10).
Membership is also about belonging to a family that is bigger than yourself. Together, we share in one another’s burdens, encourage one another’s faith, and follow Jesus side by side (Gal. 6:2; Heb. 10:24-25; Eph. 2:21-22).
When we live this way, the church grows healthy and beautiful. Each of us plays a part, yet we move forward as one body, united in the mission God has entrusted to us (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
